How Does the Shirodhara Head Spa Work?

You’ll lie on your back, gently cocooned in soft layers, with your head resting over a basin. The ritual begins with 5–10 minutes of Shirodhara: warm herbal oil is poured from a traditional copper bowl in a continuous, rhythmic stream across the forehead — the third eye — flowing over your scalp and hair. This traditional method is used intentionally at Stretch & Soothe and is not commonly offered in the region, chosen for its ability to support a smoother, more grounding Shirodhara experience.

This ritual activates the parasympathetic nervous system, guiding you into a deeply relaxed, meditative state. It blends ancient Ayurvedic Shirodhara techniques with Japanese Head Spa-inspired scalp care, creating a sensory experience that nurtures both mind and body.

Once the oil ritual is complete, a double shampoo removes excess oil through a circulation-boosting scalp massage, following Japanese Head Spa principles. A deep conditioning treatment is applied, and while it soaks in, you’ll receive a gentle facial using Aesop and other premium botanical products.

Your hair is brushed out and rinsed under the Water Halo, a flowing curtain of warm water that enhances sensory calm. A leave-in treatment is applied, and your hair is gently dried to a damp finish. A grounding neck and shoulder massage completes your reset.
