Assisted Stretch Therapy FAQ

For many people, this style of therapy is new — so it’s completely natural to have questions. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common things people ask before their first session.

Our goal is simple: to help you feel supported, comfortable, and confident as you begin.

I don't know if I should see a physio, osteo, massage or stretch therapist!

Stretch & Soothe always recommends seeing a trained health professional such as a physio, osteopath, or doctor for diagnosis and treatment of injuries. Assisted Stretch Therapy is a supportive wellness practice that promotes mobility, relaxation, and overall wellbeing. Stretch therapy focuses on prevention, mobility, and maintenance, helping the body stay balanced rather than reacting only when pain or injury occurs.

Can you focus just on stretching my problem areas?

The body often compensates around tight or painful areas, which is why we usually recommend a full-body assisted stretch session rather than focusing on one isolated spot. The ‘all of body’ relief that comes from this is what we prioritise delivering.

For tailored regular stretching of problem areas please feel free to discuss a treatment plan with your therapist.

Can it help with muscle tightness?

  • Please arrive about 5 minutes early so we can complete your client intake form and discuss your goals for the session.

  • Try not to have a full stomach and do a small warm up first. Walking or other gentle motion for 5-10 minutes is enough.

What should I wear for a stretch?

Comfortable, loose-fitting or stretchy clothing is ideal. No tight clothes such as jeans.

No skirts or dresses, pants work best.  You will remain fully clothed with your shoes off.  No oil is used for stretching sessions.

How often should I get stretch therapy?

Some clients come weekly or fortnightly to maintain mobility, while others visit occasionally when their body feels tight or restricted. The right frequency depends on your lifestyle and movement habits.

What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage is a therapeutic treatment that focuses on identifying and treating muscle tension, pain, and restricted movement. It uses a range of techniques to target specific areas of discomfort and support recovery.

Do I need to be flexible to try stretch therapy?

Not at all. Assisted stretch therapy is designed for all flexibility levels. Your practitioner adjusts the stretches to suit your current range of motion and comfort.

What is the difference between remedial and relaxation massage?

Relaxation massage focuses on calming the body and reducing stress, while remedial massage is more targeted and aims to address specific areas of muscle tension or dysfunction.

What conditions can remedial massage help with?

Remedial massage is commonly used to support people experiencing:

  • muscle tightness

  • postural tension

  • headaches related to neck tension

  • sports recovery

  • general muscular discomfort

How often should I get remedial massage?

Some clients book regularly to maintain muscle health, while others visit when they feel tension building. Your therapist may suggest a frequency based on your needs.
